We thought you might like to see how he celebrated.
THE DAY BEFORE:PART 1.
Nick arranged a fishing afternoon for Steve out on the ocean.
Steve and Charlie, Nick and Lin's neighbour, ready for the off.
How are they ever going to get the boat out?
Hectic preparations. (Perhaps not so hectic for Charlie.)
'Where did I leave my boat?'
Steve's ready even if no-one else is yet.
Here we go!
Left hand down a bit!
What has Steve forgotten now??
Lin's wondering what on earth Steve is doing now.
Let's hope it's true.
They're away!!
Out on the ocean.
Triumphant anglers return.
What did they catch?? Well, Steve and Charlie caught some mussels, Dave caught some small snapper that had to be thrown back as were too small........
and Nick caught a big snapper (see video below..
You may have to click on this a couple of times as Steve in excitement lost control of the camera so you will see Nick's feet as well as him holding the fish..)....
.......as well as a really big one that got away. (Really! It broke the line.)
They readily admitted that the 8 extra snapper they brought home had been generously given to them by some fellow Maori anglers they met out at sea who'd caught more than they needed.

Dave expertly filletted them ready for Steve's birthday BBQ next day.
THE DAY BEFORE: PART 2
That evening Steve, Sue, Nick, Lin and Dan went out for dinner at Rocco's Restaurant in Thames.
Only to discover that Dave had sent ahead a bottle of bubbly for us all to toast Steve with.
Thanks Dave!!
CHEERS!
And when it came to Steve's desert, a candle too!
The snapper hit the grill, along with plenty more.
What better place to celebrate your birthday than looking out on the Pacific?
Steve looked resplendent in his birthday hat, posted to him from the UK by Shane and Sheila.
Even Barclay joined in the fun.
It had to be chocolate for Steve.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
