HONG KONG

Welcome readers!!
We've decided to write this blog so that friends and family can keep tabs on what we're doing BUT ALSO so that we can have a permanent record of our trip. So...please be patient with us if we seem to be rambling on at times or if some comments are directed at specific people. We won't be posting every day.

First impressions:
  • people everywhere
  • the architecture
    • all different shapes, for effect not functionality
      • engineering difficult
  • shops!!!
  • face masks and an obsession with avoiding germs
  • soy sauce smell
  • 10th January sitting in Chinese fast-food joint with 'Jingle Bells' and  'Oh Come All Ye Faithful' playing in the background.
We are staying at the Harbour Plaza North Point.  Hotel Ok.  Easy access to the metro.  Our first days have been spent catching up with sleep, getting the mobile phone working (the international access code is different for texting - WHY??), getting the Wifi set up and visiting the central area (near the Hong Kong stock Exchange) and also Hong Kong park.

THE BUILDINGS
Selection of great shapes from our first day.

THE PEOPLE

Hong Kong ancient and modern: T'sai Chi in the shade of a skyscraper

Felipino maids enjoying a picnic on Sunday, their only day off.

Maybe Steve should buy one of these???

HONG KONG PARK
This park is an oasis of calm in the middle of a chaotic city.
There is a Registry Office in the park and couples have their pictures taken afterwards.

TEA
In the Park there is a Museum of Teamaking, with some interesting twists.....
MONICA NOTE!!

Ancient.........

And modern.....

As if we didn't know!

A modern prize-winning entry to competition to design tea-pot

And of course (LOUISE ALERT!!) a chicken.

Interesting photo's and I particularly liked the wigs!
Have you managed to see my email about Silverstone in response to your email?
I haven't heard back from Den yet but tickets are going fast.
Take care and look forward to reading more on your travels.
